Chronic Pain Drains Your Brain

Written By

Pain drains your brain. How does this happen? Chronic physical pain causes emotional pain – feeling helpless, anxious and depressed. Helplessness reduces the brain’s ability to produce proteins that protect brain cells and their connections to one another (the “synaptic connections”). Also, the inflammation related to the physical pain reduces the brain’s ability to protect itself from oxidative stress (so-called “free radicals”) that damage the brain. Inflammation prevents the “glial cells” in the brain from nurturing and protecting the neurons and synapses. If you or someone you care about suffers from chronic pain, today’s video blog will provide helpful hints to ease emotional and physical pain.
