    Biography

Julie is a highly gifted and empathetic nutritionist; with a thoughtful, sophisticated approach to helping patients shed light on the space between their goals and actions, so that they can move toward optimal mental health. Using tools from her training in functional nutrition, she provides an evidence-based approach to patient care that allows time for a complete medical history, lab work, and lifestyle adjustments in order to optimize health. Julie partners with her patients to allow for the type of personalized, integrative care that is necessary to find balance within the realm of chronic mental health concerns.

Julie is a licensed nutritionist who specializes in the connection between the brain and the gut. Her passion around brain health complements her knowledge of how to address dysfunctions in the gut that contribute to various emotional and cognitive concerns. She is well-versed in various tools that give a window into the foundations of health- the gut, inflammation, and cellular health. She employs nutritional and lifestyle interventions in response to common concerns such as fatigue, insomnia, weight loss and cancer prevention/treatment, utilizing therapeutic diets, fasting, and mindfulness to support optimal health and healing.

She is a ReCODE trained practitioner who implements Dr. Bredesen’s program to address Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of cognitive decline including mood and anxiety disorders. She has practiced clinical nutrition in the DC area for 9 years and teaches at the GW Medical School’s Integrative Nutrition program.  She has completed a book on integrative nutrition for older adults and has authored the nutrition chapter for the Integrative Geriatric Medicine text edited by Dr. Mikhail Kogan.

Julie’s journey with health began at Cornell University, where she studied Resource Economics. She wanted to understand the drivers of people’s actions and choices, many of which seemed to be in conflict with their personal well-being—and that of the planet. Julie’s interest in health extended to the role of food as medicine during her first pregnancy and then with her first child. After serving as her family’s nutritionist for over a decade, she decided to combine her passion for food, gift for healing, and desire to help others through her work in the field of integrative nutrition.

Julie holds a B.S. in Resource Economics from Cornell University and a Masters of Science in Integrative Health and Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health. She is a Licensed Dietician Nutritionist (LDN) in Maryland, a Licensed Nutritionist (LN) in D.C., and a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), and a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist (CKNS).
